Response to Luis about substitutes

As I was looking through the blogs, I found this intersting post from my buddy Luis about substitute teachers:
"I hate it when people try and take advantage of substitutes like if they do not even know the rules of the school. In my old school, taking advantage of substitutes continuously happened throughout the year. I admit it I also used to take advantage but sometimes there is a limit. Some people take it too far."
I wanted to write this response post ever since I saw those words, "In my old school..." Well, me and Luis went to teh same middle school, and I agree with what he said. That there were substitute teachers that we took definitely took advantage of. For example, there was this one French guy that was at our school for 3 years and trust me, everyone hated him. Everyone spread rumors about him, but he was cool....sometimes.

Taking advantage of substituts are, what I think, just our way of responding to ourselves that there is no teacher for the day and we have the classroom to ourselves to do whatever we wantm which is true. We get our snacks out, put our headphones on, and munch away.

From what my brother told me, at my old school, we actually have substitute teachers on hand that are actually working int he office, and this year, he had the former math teacher that I never had, but he taught me how to tune my guitar by ear. My borther and his classmates hated him.

Now, 'hate' is a strong word to say, especially to substitutes, but what makes a sub so- hateable?

I think it's the sound of their voices (the french dude had a thick accent), their personality (french guy was french...enough said), and whether or not they have the ability to get the class to order.

Speak Book Post #2

This is the part where we actually find out what happened to Melinda. I do not know if it is a spoiler, but without it, this post would be meaningless to the readers.

Melinda got raped by IT. IT is Andy Evans. The guy that offered Melinda a bite of his jelly doughnut and she ran away.

When I read that part, I instantly wanted to go back to the beginning of the books and figure out how the rape fits in to Melinda and how she's acting.

After reading the second part, with Melinda's grades and her problems at school, it seems like she doesn't care about anything else but what had happened to her. What me and my group discussed was how the rape does affect her life at home and at school.

For school, it would be her grades and the teachers. We also discussed why Melinda calls her teachers by her nickname, but that's for another time. Her grades, event though she never does send out that feeling in the book: "I was raped." I kind of thought she was just depressed.

Also, what our group talked about was how Melinda struggles with her grades. From what my group gathered, we made a theory of some sort that if Melinda would speak out and not be afraid of saying what she wants to say, then she would live a much better life than the one she has right now in the book.

One last thing my group talked about was the closet that Melinda decides to take over as her own 'home'. John asked what this could symbolize to Melinda. We all sort of agreed upon this place as being the only place that Melinda can trust. The only place where she could be herself and not have to worry about being asked anything.

Speaking of symbolism, there was also a mention of that in the book, where Hairwoman wants the class to analyze The Scarlet Letter and figure out what symbols are in there. Our group discusses how symbolism is a part of Melinda's life. From naming the teachers by their nicknames and also the closet itself.

Silent Auction SUCCESS/Response to Peter

First off the Silent Auction was A-MA-ZING. I had a lot of fun!

There were many items for bid. Many of them were baskets, or tickets to the many places that could be discovered in the Bay Area. I myself bid on two items, a voucher for dog food which I won, but did not really want because at the last minute, McCoy erased her name, which was surprising to me. I'm just going to give it to her on Monday.

The second item was fun to bid on, it was a live auction, for the Dinner and Movie for 3 with Mr. Fong and Ms. Ahn. It was Me, Kristine, Annie, and Branson. Noticed how it's dinner for 3? Yeah. There was four of us. We were up against Lisa H., Andy Chu, and Marissa. But we planned everything out! In the end, after going to about $160... both of us are getting dinners, and if I have my facts wrong correct me.

Since there was four of us, Annie decided to just give it to the three of us and she won't get it. Then Ms. Ahn talks to us about a different solution for the four of us..... to the response!

This is from my buddy Peter's blog. He was one of the performers that I personally asked to perform... no matter how much I hate him (JK). He was good, as usual, and he also played the piano for Music Club and ended the song with the Super Mario Overworld Theme Song! Which is what I wanted him to play, but NO he played a different song.

Anyways, I thought this quote fit in with everybody that was at the auction, and especially for the PTSA execs, who helped plan the auction:
"After having the Silence Auction night, I went home as fast as I could because I did not do any of my blog post, and if the Freshman did not remind me, I might probably forgot."
I like how the freshmen had to remind him. I'm pretty sure that throughout the night, the only thing running through everybody's mind, especially the sophomores was that we had HW due, and that included this post, a book post, 2 essays to work on, math hw, a study guide for science, and a STD brochure for science. On the weekend of the Silent Auction. How convenient.

I wanted to say my thanks, but didn't want to. To the PTSA board and Ms. Harhen. To the teachers that came (everybody except Mr. Sutherland *cough*) and the student volunteers. without any of you, we would not have raised OVER $2-3000.

Speak Book Post #1

My first impression of Speak was that it would be just another of those high school books. You know, the one where a student feels left out and just wants to fit in. Well, in Melinda's case, the person that was like that, was Heather. A typical high school student that onl wanted to fit in somewhere, so as to not be known as a loner.

In our first group discussion, we mostly talked about the characters, an what effect they have on Melinda. For example, how Mr. Freeman could potentially be a role model for our main character. He seems to be the only one that actually cares about her 'growth,' which is a coincidence because for the art project, the students had to choose an item to focus on the entire year, and Melinda got a tree. In our discussion, I asked what the tree could mean to Melinda. It could mean 'growth' and how Melinda would grow branches if she learns to finally speak up for herself.

Also, the day before, we wanted to discuss what makes a b*tch. Mostly because of the way that Rachelle, Melinda's former best friend, and many other studants treated her. In the book it is said that Melinda called the cops at a party and got everybody busted. Although we wil eventually learn about what would happen at the party later in the future, that is also what we discussed. The party and people that are the b-words, what really makes a b-tch? In Rachelle's case, that would be not bothering to know what happened at the party and why Melinda called the police when she knew she was having fun. In Heather's case, it's just being herself, and in Melinda's case, it's not caring about anything, keeping everything to herself, and just being a b-tch of her own.

Oh how could I forget Mr. Neck? The only thing my group figured out about his relationship with Melinda is just a bad first impression. What if it was better? Too bad we didn't get to that.

So far, this book is good. And I am so looking forward to what happens at the party.

Script Frenzy!

100 pages. One month. I GOT THIS.

I should totally be getting extra credit for this *cough*

I got a storyline too! And I already got an outline for the script.

http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/

going to be one hell of a ride in April.

I'm hoping to get a good storyline. like the one my old novel did..... but i'm hoping I will not die before then.

The Garcia Girls Essay

In How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accents by Julia Alvarez, there are four sisters that adjust to living in America when their dad moves out of their original home, the Dominican Republic.

Honestly, I did not like this book. When I first read the preview for it, I instantly thought "Oh, it's in reverse chronological order and the narrator might switch off between the sisters so I can get different views." Not really. Most of the book was narrated either by Yolanda or Sofia, but with other characters narrating sometimes too. This is just one of the few weaknesses that I will mention.

For this book, I have notices a few weaknesses. That including how confused I got with the reverse chronological order of the story, and how there were so many different views amongst the characters. What I meant by that is that with the many characters that were mentioned in the book, most of them had different perspectives and it got sort of confusing.

What I have noticed also is that Julia Alvarez fails to mention some background information that would have been quite useful. For example, there is one quote that me and my group questioned quite often, between Yolanda and her parents:

“‘We love you.’ Her mother said it loud enough for two people’s worth. ‘Don’t we, Papi?’
‘Don’t what, Mami?’ Yo’s father turned.
‘Love her,’ his wife snapped.”(81-82)

In the book, for most of the time that Papi is in the room with Yolanda, he has his back turned towards the window most of the time. Which me and my group discovered, could have meant a bad relationship between the two, just like the bad relationship between Sofia and her dad. What that meant for me was that at the end of the book, when I finished was an empty part of my brain that was dying for more information. I wanted to reread the book just to see if I missed any vital information that could be useful, but I opted not to.

Speaking of strained relationships, the relationship between Sofia and her father was widely shown throughout the book, even in the 2nd and 3rd part where Alvarez leads to a thought of Sofia being sort of a rebel and not interested in what her family thinks of her. What I first thought of her when I read the whole Otto story was that she was brave and was not afraid to stand up to her father.

When I read the part of how the father discovered the letters from Otto to Sofia, I instantly thought that he was one of those dads, the one that love their daughters and will do anything to protect them, I had that thought up until the end of the first part, where I saw some tension going on between him and Yolanda.

“‘Are you a whore?’ the father interrogated his daughter.(30)

That line right there must have torn Sofia’s heart in some altering way. That’s one of those lines that kids never want to hear their parents say, including anything that has to do with the reproductive system. What also stood out to me with this quote is that Sofia didn’t do much to contradict his statement, she just said something else that no parent ever  needs their kids to say to them:

“‘It’s none of your fucking business!’ [...] ‘You have no right,no right at all, to go through my stuff or read my mail!’”(30)

Like I have mentioned before, these are words and sentences that parents do not want to hear. This brings up another question to me as well..... do our parents have the right to look through our stuff and show them off to the world? Yes, they are our parents, but sooner or later, we will have to have a part of our lives that just cannot include them. For example, most parents would be on their child’s cases about how much effort they should put into school, and honestly, I just wish my parents would do the same thing. The others out there are complaining about how annoying it is to see their parents looking at their HW and Schoolloop all the time... at least they care. My parents don’t even know schoolloop exists no matter how many times I show them. They just tell me, “Get a 3.0,” and when I don’t they get mad at me. They always say I don’t do anything and I stay up really late. They don’t do tests every week and don’t have blog posts or essays to do. I would honestly do better if they cared, which they don’t. Right now, my parents are mad and my mom locked me out of my room because I’m working on this and they think I’m on facebook the entire time. Oh yeah, they don’t have to watch over their grandma(I love my grandma) on an oxygen tank 5 days a week. And they have no idea what extra-curricular activities are. Anyways, back to the real point of this, parents do have the right to get involved with our lives, they’re our parents, but there are lines. In which both Sofia and the dad crossed. Sofia should not have hid the letters and Otto from them, and the dad did not have to snoop around like Sherlock Holmes, elementary my dear friend.

All-in-all, I did not enjoy this book that much. It was okay at some parts, but I just did not enjoy it. The only good parts that I liked reading and would be more than happy to start reading again would be Part One.

How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents 3

Honestly I didn't really enjoy the last part of the book. It was just bland with no climax, as my group had said. At first, I thought that the ending would have had a good kick to it, You know......how books are always supposed to end, sometimes with a cliffhanger, and sometimes with "Oh, I want to read this again and connect the pieces." How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez though, ended with a HUGE cliffhanger, and I really did want to read the book again to see if I missed anything that would have helped me understand the ending of the book more.

What I've noticed about the book, however, is that Yolanda is not really the narrator of the book. The book was mostly based around Sofia. From Otto to Manuel to her old innocent self that got caught with the marijuana (btw.. a 7th grader at UPA got caught with marijuana. My peer education thing didn't work at all thank you very much 6th graders.). Yolanda was supposed to be the narrator of the story, but I didn't see much of that. There was also the part where I thought I would have found out about what was going on between Yolanda and her father, but for that I also did not get anything.

All in all, the book was enjoyable, but I just didn't really get the story. I saw why the author put the story the way it was, but I just didn't get it. Just like what Peanut said, the second part of the book was the "meat" and the other two parts of the book were exactly like the prologue and epilogue, which did not give me a real good understanding of the sisters and 'how they lost their accents."

Oh yeah... GUESS WHO'S SEEING HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1 MIDNIGHT PREMIERE??? YEAH. ME.(i only have to convince my parents....which will be IMPOSSIBLE) they have no idea how important HP is to me.

I also got jacked my Sutherland. He stole my Speak book. Which was getting really good. Thanks a lot.

Response to Stan's Post.

For this response post, I will be using a quote that I got from Stan:

Music these days. Whether we listen to rap, hip-hop, techno, country, or any other genre, there will be the people that we like and the people that we don't like. That is why this quote that I got from Stan stood out to me. Even though he was mostly talking about rap, I'm going to incorporate this with the other albums and genres out there in the music industry:
"Most albums had about 3 really good songs and the rest weren't really worth listening to."
Music these days....... There are so many things that I could say about it, but then i will just go on and on and on about it. The musical talents that are out there,(Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Usher, etc.) They all made it to where they are now, even for Justin Bieber (cringe. Ask my friends, and they will tell you about my dislike for Justin Bieber). Then there is that layer below them, the musical people that have a strong fan base, but just don't make it out there, and they are the ones that I mostly have in my favorites, including: 2AM Club, Varsity Fanclub, Thomas Fiss, V-Factory(idk about them), and...Gloriana, Gloriana is quite possibly the best country band ever...way better than Lady Antebellum, and I don't even like her.

As for the albums, I agree with Stan, not just for rap albums, but for all albums in general. they now only have like a few good songs in there. Like Taylor Swift's Speak Now album, I only like a couple of songs there, and there weren't really any songs in there that don't have to do with a guy that broke her heart or something like that. *cough* John Mayer *cough*. And for Thomas Fiss' EP? The whole pop thing doesn't really go with him. Sure he came from a boyband, but did he really have to do pop? He's better off with only his guitar and a two-way mic, which is really expensive and I want one really badly.

To me, what Stan is trying to say is that artists need to spend more time on what is in the album instead of just making an album to make more money than they already have. Taylor Swift need to get something new to write songs about, like Jake Gyllenhaal, and Thomas needs to stick to his guitar ONLY.

Avalon High and King Arthur

On Disney Channel (yes Disney channel) the new movie Avalon High is showing. (It ended) It was really good. And you could say that I learned new stuff about King Arthur that I would never have cared to learn.

After reading the book, I thought that it would be the same and that Marco would end up being Mordred, but the teacher guy! He was beasting! I would have never guessed he was the one that would turn his backs on everybody, even after Allie gave him the prophecy.

Not wanting to give any spoilers (so I gave one) what I enjoyed most was the costume design, the King Arthur history that I learned about him. I really do hope that an incarnation like the one that happened in the movie could possibly happen. It would be interesting to see that any one person that we know could quite possibly turn out to be King Arthur, Mordred, or even Merlin. Merlin is definitely my favorite character. Him and his reincarnation.

There was this one book series, Magic Tree House, that had two kids that would travel back and forth in time and connect with many events that happen. And then there were a few books that cut off from the series, but was still related that had the kids talk to Merlin and travel back in the time to Camelot. The kids would go on quests in order to find puzzles that would eventually help them rescue Merlin and their leader, who were, I think, captured by these evil people. I never got to read the last book of that series, but I have a feeling that Merlin and the leader got safe, because as in almost all books, there are good, if not happy, endings.

I have also read the Avalon High book, and it was different from the Disney Channel Movie. Where most of the characters were changed and the plot of the story was different too, but either way, the book or the movie, it was good.

Day 8: your favorite internet friend and Day 9 (thomas fizzle)

My favorite internet friend would either be Daniel (my buddy from New York) or Thomas Fiss (YEAH.)

Daniel:
Hi. I never talk to you that much, but hi. I met you through facebook, where you supposedly friend requested me because of the wall post I had on Thomas' wall about losing the guitar pick. Then we had long convos over chat about guitar and stuff. You sort of remind me of Xavier, but I'm not going into the description of that.

Thomas Fiss:
Dude, why did you have to leave Varsity Fanclub? VFC will never be the same again without you. T.C. is even dressing like you and I feel really sad everytime I see their new album cover because that should be you in the front and not T.C.

You and Drew were like best friends, even if they never did use any of your songs, which I know would have been awesome, you could have talked to him about instead of going solo. I mean, your EP's are good, but you sounded better with VFC.

My favorite songs from both your EP's are Romeo, Saturday Night Movie, Believe, and Over It.

I wanted your Super Deluxe, but it was expensive and my dad didn't want me to get it, so I got it off iTunes. I got the ones that you sold every week because I like the pictures that came with every song, which is what I presume to be the ones on the separate CD cases that come with the Super Deluxe.

My favorite thing about you though, when you were still with VFC is the Youtube videos that you guys made, they were the ones that got me hooked onto VFC in the first place, it was the Burnin' Up video that got me to admire Drew's talent of freestyling and your skills in playing guitar, even if you do play chords that I have never seen before in my life.

You're one of the main reasons why I pursued guitar in the first place, and though I probably will never get to meet you in real life (since you won't come to Nor Cal) that's the only thing I'm going to say.

How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents 2

This is the second section to How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accents by Julia Alvarez. The book is in reverse chronological order, meaning that this is the part of the book where the four girls and their parents have only just arrived in America and the girls are attending the school that the parents have sent them too.

As any parent in this generation today, they want their kids to stay true to their roots. I mean, with all the new music, television shows, movies, and just friends in particular, many of this generation's parents want their kids to remember where they came from. "Never forget where you come from." as my dad always said.

I actually liked reading this section. It had a good hook to it. The beginning was really interesting, how Julia Alvarez wrote about how the four sisters were changing from what they once were in the Dominican Republic to what they are now in America:
"By the end  of a couple of years away from home, we had more than adjusted.[...] Mami and Papi got all worried they were going to lose their girls to America," (109).
Here is a quote that most parents can relate to. Losing their kids to customs in America that the parents have never probably heard of before. For example, my parents hate it whenever I read or listen to music that is not filipino, also watching T.V. shows that are not filipino, even though I enjoy watching those.

What Mami and Papi were going through in the book was that they were losing their girls to new customs, they were losing them faster to the new customs, than they did when they learned the old customs. They didn't want their girls to forget everything that they have learned, especially when they pass them on to their offspring.

Free Write: Zombie Apocalypse

Today was the Mehserle case.
That meant football ended early.
That also meant people had to call their parents early.
So that meant more people sitting outside of ASTI waiting for their parents.
The result of all that??

1.Talking About what we would do if there was a Zombie Apocalypse to happen right then and there.
2. Harry Potter

1. While sitting on the curb at ASTI(which we're not supposed to do) Yong Fou mentioned zombies and then we talked about zombies popping up out of nowhere.

What would I do? Well, I stole this from someone, but first, we would check to see if anyone had anything on them, the we would take anything from the office (those bouncy balls.) and climb on the roof. Then we would just sit there and figure out what to do for the rest of the day, maybe play some dodgeball?

I found out zombies have human strength look like us but are uglier, and they can pop up out of nowhere.

2.Harry Potter. This was mostly from the other two that were with me, and they were separating the senior class into what House they would go to in Hogwarts..... here's some of my friends on it:

Me: I would be the one that would be like "Not Slytherin...Not Slytherin....."
Annie: Is in Ravenclaw of course... she's in it.
Daniel: Hufflepuff. No doubt about it.
Marco: I don't really see him there. I see him at Durmstrang with Krum.
Andy Chu: Durmstrang... I just hope they don't tag that place up with the ASTI Mascot.

Anways, my whole point of this post was to just keep my mind off the riots that were going on in Oakland, and the sincerity that the staff at ASTI showed at school today. Even though I was there for only 6th period, the teachers wanted us to get home safely, and trust me, driving through Oakland was not safe. I have news and a house there to know that.

I love Oakland, well, truth is.. I liked it back in the day. BUT, I love Oakland, and the whole point of the riots is to show respect for Oscar Grant, but do we really have to do it by hurting the property of others? Do we have to hurt others? There are more peaceful ways to solve this problem, which is what officials hoped the riots would turn out to be. Peaceful.  Oakland was loud today, but it was quiet.

How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accent

How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accent by Julia Alvarez tells the story of four sisters trying to cope with...life. They each have their own personal struggles and part 1 of the book mostly centers around Yolanda, the third oldest sister. She has multiple personalties, each reflecting a different side of her. For example, one of her nicknames, "Joe" represents her American self, "Yoyo" is similar to the toy, and how it goes up and down, back and forth. It is similar to Yolanda's personality and how she keeps moving from one thing to the next.

Most of the first part of the book mainly focuses on Yolanda and her relationships with men. but before the chapters with Yolanda, I thought that most of it was about how Fifi and her father do not get along well because of her running away to Otto. Fifi was the 'rebel', as I would call it of her family. She liked to do things her way, and if she did not get what she wanted, she keeps trying. One day, on her trip to Colombia, she meets a German, Otto. They 'fall in love at first sight'  and keep in touch with each other by letters. Fifi's dad discovers the letters and is pissed off. I thought that, it was just another way to describe 'it's either your family or this man' and she chose Otto, her man. She goes and finds him, asks for his hand in marriage and now they have kids.

What's interesting about this book is that it goes in reverse-chronological order. That means that most of the events that are happening in the book are going backwards, which is how I got confused on the chapter with mostly Yolanda. The book says that she was married to a man John, whom loved her, but 'spoke in a different language' than her, then it hints that Yolanda falls in love with her doctor, who tries to help her keep her mind off leaving John. Then after the doctor part, there is another chapter about a guy, Rudy Elmhurst that only wants to have sex with Yolanda, but Yolanda seems to differ. She believes that her relationship with Rudy might just work out, and she tries her best stay together with him.

All-in-all, I thought that the first part of this book was a good hook. It's interesting how Alvarez makes it in reverse-chronological order to depict the events that happen to the sisters, also how she is capable of making the coherence with it flow.

Reflective Essay

~Hi. Mr. Sutherland, just to let you know, this isn't one of my best pieces. With this whole week being crazy, my brain is dead.~
-After I have written this, I realize that I am repetitive and my coherence is horrible. Please bear with it.-

Throughout this whole blogging thing, I have learned so many new things about my writing. Last year, I was still trying to discover whether or not I had a knack for it, and right now, I still don't know. There are many things that inspire me to write, and most of what inspires me helps me write the posts are the ones that turn out to be my favorites.

There are many things that I have learned from writing these posts. One is that I am a comic book-movie geek, I get too obsessed with TV Shows, and I have this weird thing with Friday Night Lights and Scott Porter, which to some people sounds weird, but I don't know. Which leads me to my next blurb, my inspiration. One of my first posts was ultimately, the building block to the rest of my posts, Pretty Little Liars vs. Huge. The reason for that is because, it served as the building block for my free poaboutsts, my inspiration for them were what caught my eye, literally, today. all those TV shows and what not. It wasn't just TV shows either, there was one of my posts, What happened to our teenage movies?, that I thought people would have thought of writing about, but didn't. How this inspired me was that movies these days were turning out horribly. The only thing I wanted to do was blog about it:
"Now, one thing that they all have in common is one thing: Grasping the teenage population with their finger. With these movies and TV shows that are broadcast to us, I start to wonder whether or not the people that watch them ever get tired of seeing the same people on their screens. I mean, back in the day, the ‘heartthrobs’ had distinct features that made them who they are. Now, all the males have the same attractive eyes, most of them the same skin tone, and all of them with that mop of hair.
This quote from the teen movies post, showed how far I went as a writer, from my knock-off of Twilight novel in 8th grade, to now, where I actually know how to place my words and make it sound actually legible.
I guess, this is the one sentence that really stood out to me out of all my posts. I actually worked on this and made sure that what I put in those sentences made sense and worked well with the coherence of the post.

One of my favorite posts was response post to Karissa.  In that post, she talked about all the Disney stars and why Disney makes them all sing. I was really proud of this post because it was one of my first response posts, and I actually worked on it. It also related to almost all of the posts that I had written about. TV shows and that stuff:
I guess Disney and us too are just growing up too fast to notice that we miss the classics. I personally miss Phil of the Future.
This quote doesn't say much obviously, but I'm just relating this to my writing. As I learn and progress more, I don't realize how far I get with my writing. As I mentioned above, my writing skills have grown with the more that I learn every single day.

While still on this quote, I chose this one to post up because I do miss my classic shows, and I do miss Phil of the Future and Zoey 101. Zoey 101, was the first show that I could recall, canceled because the main character got pregnant. I can't blame her. She is Britney Spears' sister after all. These shows were the ones that really taught me about life in general, whereas the new shows these days are just echoing them. Which I think is just stupid. The shows these days just don't live up to my expectations as before. And I can predict that in the future, the kids that are only like 6 or 7 are going to say the same about the shows these days too. Of how they're going to miss the 'classics' like Hannah Montana or The Suite Life on Deck. The Suite Life on Deck isn't that good. The original The Suite Life of Zack and Cody was more adventurous and it was funny. Not the new one.

My least favorite post was the response that I had to Tiffany and Amber G. The reason why I didn't like it that much was because it was just bleh. Half of the word count from that came from the quotes itself, and I just didn't like it. It was a brain dump to me. Also, as of right now, that post is the worst possible thing to happen to me, that and Day 2(which I will not post a link to).

To sum this all up, most of my inspiration comes from what my old middle school counselor would say, "where a normal teenager would be right now." Yes, that means movies and Harry Potter and Pretty Little Liars. Of my least and favorite posts, it really says a lot about who I am. Re-reading these posts again even only after a few months, I get flashbacks to Ms.Valdez' class last year and I realize that I did use some of what she taught us in my writing. (Even though I never really did get good grades on her essays). This is going to sound corny, but my inspiration comes from the life that I am living right now, even with the response posts, I use some of what happens to me to respond to those posts. The blog posts have helped me expand as a writer and I'm getting better at writing too. (right now, I came up with an idea to write a novel that's good, unlike my old one. The Twilight knock-off with my made up super-humans that are called 'tempermentals' that I wrote 5 chapters too, and used the last chapter in my portfolio for ASTI) Oops. Run-on. Still have some writing flaws.

NO. FML

Mr. Sutherland. I saved my post, proofread it again for a once-over and then when I pressed 'Publish' It was gone. I have no idea what happened, but would it be cool if I could do it tomorrow? -_-

Day 7: Your Favorite Actor/TV personality

Dear Scott Porter :D

You have no idea how big of a fan I am to you. You deserve a bigger break. It's kind of sad how you star in movies that people think are going to be big, but aren't, like Bandslam. I thought it was going to be big too.

You're really talented. You can sing and act. And play guitar. And is a comic book geek. Yeah, I noticed you Fantastic 4 shirt for that one premiere.

When you have your first single released on iTunes, I'm going to buy it. I already have Pretend, which is really cool by the way.

I can't wait until Jason Street comes back for FNL.

Bigger Break, that means you get the part of either Superman or Flash. Because every actor starts out small (no pun intended) right? For (bad)example, Robert Pattinson did not get big (pun intended) until Twilight, but for me, and other people, he's still small (jk)

Have fun with your life.

-Kim, a really big fan of yours.

P.S. for family time, we had a question (Which celebrity would you take to prom?) I chose you or Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Prom Night reference. lol

Day 5: Your Dreams (and Day 6)

Hi dreams.

I really don'twant to talk about it, or I'll start going off on an Inception talk. Which is true.

Yeah. I have alot of dreams at ASTI so that means something.
Also, I learn that if you dream about a specific someone, then they were thinking about you that night. Coolio.

I found me totem. It's coin. (MINE)

I'll just venture off into Day 6.......

Day 6: A stranger

The only thing that can come up on my mind while typing this is "Breathing Underwater: Episode 12 'Love with a Stranger,'" which is also a song. Also, for some reason, this reminds me of Aragorn. Don't ask me why.

I wish stranger were the same one like Chad in the episode. He was cool. And he just talked out of nowhere to Marie. That was really sweet of him.

One thing I hated though, was him giving her the scarf when he could have just given her his trench coat. He was wearing a suit under that.

Anyways stranger, I hope we can meet one day. (Right Daniel?)

The Central Conflict of Night

In Night by Elie Wisel, The main character, Elie gets sent to concentration camps when he was 15. He gets separated from his family, and it is during that time that he tries to figure out where he belongs. Elie faces many character-vs-self moments when he tries to figure out who he is, and what his place in the world is, even if he is in a concentration camp.

During the beginning of the book, Elie already has his mind set on what he wants to be, a rabbi. All that changes though, when him and his family get sent to live in a ghetto. And after that, him getting sent to the concenration camps, where he learns that the only thing he can do to stay alive, is only fend for himself, nobody else. "Yesterday, I should have sunk my nails into the criminal's flesh. Had I changed so much, then? So quickly?" (37). Elie realizes sooner than later, that whatever he does, his father whould have to go through what Elie went through. Elie gets separated from his family, and is only left with his father. In the book, he never sees his mom or his younger sister Tzipora ever again. It is here that something sparks inside of Elie that makes him realize that if he doesn't have his whole family with him, then he has to stick with whoever he has left(his father) and fight until they can get out of their obstacle.

There are many obstacles that Elie faces while in the concentration camps, and that includes keeping to himself what is rightully his. While in the camp, he has a gold crown, which normally, the Nazis would take, but Elie would not let them take it. The officers offered to give him extra rations of food, ut he did not budge. Soon though, they did take his crown. "But that did not last long.A fortnight later, all the Poles were transferred to another camp. I had lost my crown for nothing," (54).  Usually, around this part of the book, Elie becomes more independent and is starting to explore without his father. Here, he knows that he could use his gold crown for some bread when he really could use it, but with the officers and even prisoners around, he knows he probably won't stand a chance against trying to hide his crown from them.

Towards the end of the book, Elie has the sense of feeling,  that the way his life would end would be death at the concentration camp. He already knows that if he keeps hoping for something good to happen, then it will just jinx him and something bad would happen. "I did not know myself what I wanted-for the day to pass quickly or not. I was afraid of finding myself alone that night. How good it would be to die here!" (72) Elie faces a character-vs-self moment when he realizes that if he loses his father, then he would not know how to live after that. Should he just go on with life and just not hope for anything? Or should he just move on. In this part of the book, his father is still with him, but he is more distant from Elie as ever before. Elie's dad starts to turn into one of the prisoners. One that only fends for themselves. Elie has never seen this side of his father before, Elie realizes then and there that the people in the camps do only care about themselves, and if he wants to survive, then he must also do the same thing, no matter who is holding him back.

The Night book, shows most of Elie's character-vs-self side. He is constantly going against what is right within him, and what should be done as said by his fellow prisoners. He learns that sooner or later he will have to fend for himself, even with his father tagging along behind him.

Auschwitz Sign, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and more.

Alright, so when I heard that we were reading Night, I instantly remembered when read the first few chapters and remembered this piece of new I heard the very same day:

The Auschwitz sign out side ("Work Sets You Free") had been stolen.

At first, I didn't really care about it, but as I learned more about the Holocaust, that was when I realized how important that sign was to our history, even if that history leaves bad visions inside our heads.

Also, I think it was the same year, I visited the United States Holocaust Memorial in Washington, DC and I admit it. I cried. From the first time I stepped into the elevator to the ghetto they made, until I stepped outside and took a moment to think about what just happened to me in there.

There was one thing that stood out to me in the memorial, there was this walkway, and lining the walkway were shoes. These shoes, belonged to those that died in the Holocaust. I remember I couldn't move and say to myself that I should go back to my group, but I just stood there looking at the shoes and reminded myself of the people that died for us. They died so that we would not have to suffer the way they did.

And that reminded me of The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas(which we should watch Mr. Sutherland). The ending scene of the movie, there were these two boys, and they were caught in a group of prisoners that were going to be killed in the gas chambers. Everyone thought that it was going to be a shower, but they were wrong. They were going to be killed by the gas Zyklon B. And those two boys were in there. One of the boys was the son of an SS officer, and the other was Jew in the camp, they were friends from across the electrical gate.

And to think, this was all from us reading Night.

Breast Cancer ftw :D

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The way I'm contributing is by helping fundraise for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, in which ASTI is making a team to walk in San Francisco. I'm not of the age limit yet, but next year, me and possibly Saskia are going to be the co-captains for the 'ASTI for Breast Cancer' team.

This year, we already have some sophomores, juniors, and A senior who are willing to make a team.

The goal?

approx. $2,515

It's $1,800 dollars for the team and $65 for each person to register.

That's our goal. And we already have a starting fund of over $100 from a movie night we did last year.

Alright, October is a great month to start fundraising, and I have in my mind a Breat Cancer/ Halloween movie night. Money goes to the ASTI team fund.

Free Write: My Generation

Just recently, I have gotten hooked to this documentary/drama series, My Generation. It revolves around 9 or 10 people of the graduating class of 2000. Then the camera people followed them up until now. After 9/11, Bush, Obama, and many other significant events within the past 10 years.

Each of the ten students were catgorized as the typical high school student, you know, "The Jock", "The Punk", and "The Brain".

Well, I watched the first two episodes and then the show got canceled. Which really disappointed me because it was really good. In a documentary/drama sort of way. What I remember from that show (okay, I watched it on Hulu like 5 minutes ago) was really that maybe we all have these expectations set out for us, but then it all comes tumbling down because of some significant changes in our lives.

For example, in the show there is "The Over-Achiever." There was only one word to describe his future, and that was success. It didn't matter what, it didn't matter where. He wanted success. Turns out, his dad was arressted for a huge fraud claim for the company he owned. The result of that was his mom and him losing their assets and him becoming a bartender in Hawaii.

Another big 'fail,' which is the most appropriate word to say here was "The Nerd." He wasn't a bad guy at all. All he wants to do with his lfe is have a good job and produce a lot of kids. Back in high school, he dated "The Punk" which in turn married "The Jock" and now is pregnant with a kid while jock is in Afghanistan. And punk is living with nerd.

Nerd is infertile which really sucks for him.

Let me just break this down:

"The Jock" marries "The Punk"; who used to date "The Nerd," "The Jock" is serving in Afghanistan. "The Nerd" used to be best friends with "The Over Achiever," but stopped because he blames him for the death of his father. "The Over Achiever" had a one-night stand with "The Wallflower" and they now both have a son who's ten. "The Over Achiever" is really good friends with "The Rockstar" and they discuss that matter. "The Rocker" meets up with "The Brain" in a restauraunt. "The Brain" used to have a solid relationship with "The Rich Kid" (who played Wren in PLL fyi) then they broke up due to the parent subject. "The Rich Kid" is now married to "The Beauty Queen" who I sware is just using him for his money and his awesome cooking skills, while she--can't do shit.

The last paragraph was basically a brain dump, but you can see how this would kind of relate to 'our generation' today.

The people I have mentioned two paragrahs ago all went to high school together and all graduated the same year. BTW.

Day 2: Your Crush

Dear Crush,

Hi. I know it's a little too early for me, but I just gotta write this.

Even though we have only just formally met on the last day of ASTI last year, I can see that our friendship has grown, even though our conversations only entirely exist upon the family program, I know that we had that those long talk at Starbucks about school, life, and many other things. I really hope that we can do that again, because I just want someone to talk to in tough times like these.

That's all I gotta say, but I do hope we can be really good friends in the future. Because I could really use a friend, and you fit the bill.

Some people would hate me when they find out who it is, there are specific people too, but hey, it's a free country. And you might still be getting over someone.

-Kim

Qfwfq In-Class Essay

Thesis: Q is torn between two worlds, the world that he wants for hiself, and the world that the other characters see.

In The Aquatic Uncle, Q meets what he thinks to be the love of his life, but all that canges when she meets his Uncle. Q takes his fiancee Lll to a part of the lake where he describes his family, and that is when his Uncle N'ba N'ga shows up. Lll and the uncle instantly have a connection, where they view the world in the same way. That is the time when Q finds out that he is losing Lll to his uncle, whom he is ashamed of for being a fish.
"Had I lost her? Suspecting this, I hastened to woo her back, I took to performing all sorts of feats[...] I was proud of myself, but unfortunately whenever I did something brave, she wasn't there to see me," (80).
Q and Lll are similar, but the differences they share tell them apart form each other. Q wants to start a family with Lll right away, in a spot that they will inhabit as their own. But Lll is still trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life, and the Uncle lets her do that. With the uncle, she can branch out from her usual self, and with Q she's another person that she's not. This is how Q sees th two different worlds that he hs to deal with.

In The Dinosaurs, Q abandoned the rest of the dinosaurs and lived to be the only dinosaur left in that time period. Soon, he discovers a new species, The New Ones, that Q stays with. Even though they are unaware that Q is a dinosaur, they talk immensely about what the dinosaurs were, and the chance that they might still be with them. "I continued looking at the skeleton, the father. the brother, my counterpart, my self[...] everything we had been and were no longer, our majesty, our faults, our ruins," (109). In this story, how Q is separated in his two worlds are, hiding his true self from the New Ones, and also just starting over and living a new life.

Also in The Dinosaurs, Q has discovered how The New Ones were still in search of the dinosaurs. Q has his two worlds moment here when he wants to tell them he is a dinosaur, but doesn't want to tell them because of what they might think of him. "Now the stories of Dinosaurs became jokes, in which the terrible monsters played ridiculous roles." (107) This shows what might happen if Q had told them about him being a dinosaur.

Glee: Should Charice get a permanent role?

The only thing I've been hearing on my Filipino Channel is Charice being on Glee, and I get it. She's filipino, she's on Glee, and you have a right to say what you want. But for reals, it's getting annoying. I don't need to be constantly reminded of how she's Filipino. But she wasn't that good. Her cover of Listen was good though.

No, I can't sing like her, but I sure can say what I want. Same goes with Justin Bieber, even though I won't get as far as he can or sing like him, I can still dislike him if I want to, and that I do.

Okay, so this show called "Balitang America" (news in America) is asking whether or not Charice should be permanent. If you haven't seen yet she's a RECURRING role which means she won't be there all the time.

I mean, do I hear questions with John Stamos being permanent (which should happen cause he's John Stamos.) or Chord Overstreet (Sam) being permanent? No. So I don't see why Charice should have a permanent role when they don't.

If there is anyone that extremely deserves a permanent role it's Harry Shum Jr. Who plays Mike Chang. You know, the one that's with Tina now.

1.He can sing
2.He can dance
3.He's been there since Season 1, but still has a recurring role
4.He has a good acting background AND...
5. He has nice abs.

Day 1 :My Best Friend

Hi Marco.

You're not my best friend any more nowadays. But I'll just recall from last year.
We met at Burger King that one day. I was getting food because I had money,an then you walked in with Egypt. That was extremely awkward especially when I found out the story behind it. I sat a table with my meal (kids) and then you sat down and we said hi. Everything is blur after that but we started hanging out for a while.

Speaking of 'while' there was that period of time when we seriously spilled our secrets to each other, that including who we liked and who was a b*tch. There was also all those times we just ate out during lunch and like 3/4 of the time I paid for you, so you owe me. And whatever money you used to pay for my food is lower than your amount, so you still owe me.

And you owe Me, Chan, Kristine, and Kyle about $40 worth of Starbucks because of the history project we did. And you STILL HAVE THE PAINT AND MY CHARCOAL. I have nothing else to say about you , except for the fact that you still owe me money and Starbucks.

Now that I think about it, we haven't been spending time together at all, except for the Great America trip, you got Gomez, and I got *cough*.

Ooh. Great America Trip. We should all do that more often. Just hang out and stuff even though I wasn't with you guys half the time.

The one thing that stood out to me though, was you being pregnant with the pig. That was like old times whenever we would joke around xD

So, the whole point of this was to write about my best friend. Well, I can't describe you that much anymore, mainly because I don't want to. So if you guys want to know more, ask Gomez or Marco.

Flashbacks with Polo: "Black hair, brown eyes"
-That one time we ate at Weinersnitchzel(sp?)
-Me learning about the Egypt Story
-And thanks for being a good best friend.

Most of the time.

I got this from Cindy

Response to Tiffany and Amber G.

This is a quote from Tiffany:

I hate and HATE when people use this phrase. Love is so overuse, that I think "I like you" is more intense! My friends usually say "I love you Tiffany" everday, but since I think love is overused and overrated, I say "I admire/adore you."
I'm just wondering, before you hated the phrase did like it? Did you LOVE it? I agree that love is overused. There is always the "OMFG! I f*ckin love you" Which, I usually refer to as when someone does something that makes the other person feel like they achieved something (not having sex, just to point that out)

Also wondering, when "I like you" gets too overused after this, will "I love you" be in the same spot as "I like you is now"?

Dude (ette), I totally get what you're saying that I love you is overused, but I don't see how "I like you is more 'intense' to prove my point, here's a quote form Amber G.'s blog:
-There is of course the best-friend, girly type I love you
-There's the family I love you
-The appreciation I love you, "Oh my gosh, thank you so much! I love you!"
-There are so many more types but personally, my favorite is:
The I love you you say to the person you feel the strongest for on this entire planet.

I get most of the I love you's are overused and I can see where that would become frustrating, but I completely disagree that "I like you" is more intense. Seriously? I don't want to sound all gooey and make you roll your eyes at how disgusting this is, but I would much rather have Marco say I love you than I like you. It has to deal with connotation, with the feelings you get with either word.
I really like that list you put there Gomez. It shows about all the ways we use "I love you" in everyday life. Also, I have to comment on the Marco mention. I would rather have Mike say I love you than I like you. And after he has read your post he has been texting me with 'I like you' in quotes to mock me. Thanks Tiffany.

Idk if this is a response, it's more of a brain dump so I hope that's cool.

Free Write: Responding to Quotes from FNL

For this post, I will show 3 of the best quotes from Friday Night Lights, and it's from this source.

"Every man at some point in his life is going to lose a battle. He is going to fight and he is going to lose. But what makes him a man is at the midst of that battle he does not lose himself. This game is not over, this battle is not over." -Coach Taylor
This quote meant a lot to me. For me, it meant that no matter what happens in our life, we will always face obstacles, challenges, and other things that will 'tackle' us along the way to the touchdown zone. What Coach Taylor is saying is that we are capable of overcoming whatever comes in our way.

"Stop saying that!!. My legs aren't ever gonna get better, ever. every night when I go to sleep, I dream I can walk again, and when I wake up, I gotta accept all over again, then you come and say that every thing is gonna be OK. that kills me Lyla. My life as we knew it, it's over, football, over, my scholarship at Notre Dame, over, you and me, are not get married." -Jason Street
Jason Street is long gone from the show, but never forgotten. I believe that he is also one of the most influential characters on the show. He has gon from the star quarterback, to the paralyzed former football player that has to adapt to not using his legs, the most important thing you need in football.

Speaking of football and wheelchairs, from watching Glee this week, Artie would have made a good football player, if Finn did run fast enough to make Artie's wheelchair a cannon of some sort. That would be cool.

"In some situations, you need to ask yourself 'WWRD?', What Would Riggins Do?" -LANDRY!
Tim Riggins, the only word to describe him would be the bad boy of the series, almost every show has one. For Glee, it's Puck. For Pretty Little Liars, it was Officer Darren. In Secret Life, it's Ricky. For almost all of these shows, the bad boys always have a good side except for Officer Darren, and let's face it. He was a douchebag.

Jason Street and Tim Riggins are the best of friends. Thy were on the football team, and Riggins never stopped helping and supporting Street during the worst time of his life. Even though I am pretty sure Street was aware that Tim would steal his girfriend, they were still friends.

I am definitely anticipating the 5th season of FNL where Jason Street will come back!!

Response to Karissa

I got this quote form Karissa's blog, and it really stuck out to me:

So, I was thinking and i realized that out of pretty much all of the actors and actresses that started on Disney Channel there are very few of them that actually have a good, continuing acting career. When I was little I used to love watching Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven and Lindsay Lohan movies. I remember when Hilary Duff was like the Miley Cyrus today. However, now we barely hear anything about her or Raven Simone and the only reason that Lindsay Lohan is still talked about is because she's a mess and is on all kinds of drugs.
This really stuck out to me because I remember when I was a little girl, I was an avid fan of Lizzie McGuire and That's So Raven. And it's true. We do not hear about any of theses wonderful people anymore. Right now, Hilary Duff is going to get married and Raven Simone just recently starred in a movie called Bride Wars that was on ABC Family, a sister company of Disney.

What's happening, according to me, to all of the new untamed Disney stars are that their main target, the pre-teens, or tweens, are losing interest in school life, little animated versions of ourselves, poeple that are psychic, and the burn book. The thing that the tweens look to now are the dudes in them. Even though it is not related to Disney at all, Twilight has the guys that everyone (except me) drool over. Back then, sure we liked how the kids on Degrassi looked, but we were more intersted in what the show's main focus was on.

I bet you that most of us that have watched any of the Lindsay Lohan movies in the past always wonder what has happened to her. Was it something at had to do with any of the movies tha she portrayed in, or was it just herself.

I think that her most outstanding performance was in The Parent Trap. She was just a young, sweet, inocent girl, not. Then we saw her progress into more mature roles as she grew up like Mean Girls. And then the whole drug incident and ankle bracelet.

I guess Disney and us too are just growing up too fast to notice that we miss the classics. I personally miss Phil of the Future. That's all for now. I'm Kim, and this is Disney 411 (remember that?)

Free Write: What happened to our teen movies?

Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, High School Musical, Camp Rock. These are just a few of many teen movies that are shown in our generation, and the ones that were shown yester-year. These are the movies that grasp the teenage population by a finger. The film industry makes millions by showing these movies, and that’s only because of pre-pubescent boys that will never live up to the names of Clint Eastwood or Harrison Ford.

Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, Make it or Break It, Huge, The Secret Life of the American Teenager,Glee. Now these, these are just a few of the TV Shows that are in our generation.
Now, one thing that they all have in common is one thing: Grasping the teenage population with their finger.
This not only applies to males, but females as well. What with almost all of their same skin tone, same long wavy hair, and who knows what else. There are dozens of unknown actors in the film industry that work their asses off, but get no recognition. For example, Scott Porter. From people that know me, I fully support him in every project he does. He was on Friday Night Lights, Speed Racer, and Bandslam. He sang a song with Hugh Grant and was in a boyband the Altar boyz. He is one of the main contenders for the role of the upcoming movies Flash and The Man of Steel (Superman). And just for some randomness: He kicks himself everyday for not auditioning for Glee. He’s an amazing singer, and I think him and Cory Monteith would have gone head-to-head.

The question here is, what happened to the teen movies? There’s no more swearing and almost half of them have to do with vampires. Also around this time are remakes. There are just new remakes popping up out of nowhere. For example, Fame (1980) and Fame (2009). The first one was just AMAZING. The second one was, bleh. Even though I obsessed over it. The thing that caught my eye though was that the first movie of Fame used the f-word 39 times and the second one... 0. That right there can already tell a lot about what has happened to the movies these days. But what is it?

Singers we have forgotten?

This is something I want to try. Everyday I add a new singer.

1.Teddy Geiger.
"For You I Will" -
I'm gonna muster every ounce of confidence I have
and cannon ball into the water
I'm gonna muster every ounce of confidence I have
For you I will

"These Walls"
Cause everybody tries to put some love on the line
And everybody feels a broken heart sometimes
And even when I'm scared I have to try to fly
Sometimes I fall
But I've seen it done before
I gotta step outside these walls

The most recent thing I have seen from him is a Youtube video of going on a road trip. He sang a song!

"Jumping salmon... Tape it to the wall."

Who should play Flash?

I have absolutely no idea whether or not the rumors just about the upcoming Flash movie is true. I just read that the director for Flash, Right now, Warner Brothers is filming Captain America starring Chris Evans (He played the Torch in Fantastic 4).
I have read some of the Flash comics, and I love that series. Here are my choices for who should play the Flash in-hopefully- the movie. (Not in any kind of order):

1.Ryan Gosling
-We all know him from The Notebook.
-He has an awesome acting background. And got nominated for an Oscar for his work in Half Nelson.

2.Chris Pine
-Startrek as Captain James T. Kirk.
     - I honestly loved all of the movies he has acted on. That including Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan and The Princess Diaries 2 with Anne Hathaway.

3.Jake Gyllenhaal
-Recently starred in Prince of Persia.
-After reading a few ariticles on why he should play Flash, the only thing I got out was that because he put on muscles for Prince of Persia, he would make a good Flash.

4.Scott Porter
-He is an amazing actor that really deserves a big break. That's why out of all the choices shown so far, and the ones that are going to be shown, he is my choice for Flash.
-He played Jason Street on Friday Night Lights, a character that became paralyzed after a football incident. His acting after that was just fantastic.
-He played the first Rex Racer in Speed Racer. And just recently starred in Bandslam with Vanessa Hudgens and Aly Michalka.

*SPOILER ALERT*: As Friday Night Light's Season 4 is continuing, I just learned that Jason Street come back (!!!) in the 5th season when Friday Night Lights will end. D:

5.Josh Duhamel
-He starred in Transformers alongside Shia LaBeouf.
-His acting background consits of several movies.
I just think he would make a good Flash because of his acting background, and if he worked at it, his body would look good in the suit.

So far, these are my choices for Flash. Here are also some quick ones that I think would make a good Flash, but I just can't see them in the movie.

-Zachary Levi (We know him from Chuck)
-Chris Evans (He's already been cast as Captain America, but I put him here because he would make a good Flash)
-Bradley Cooper (He's kind of old, but that does not mean he cannot play him.)
-Tom Welling (I honestly think he would be better off as Superman, but hey, he was on Cheaper by The Dozen)

I hope this counts as one of the weekly blog-posts we are supposed to.
Also, look out for the next post. "Who should play Superman in the upcoming movie Man of Steel that will be shown on the day we are all supposed to die in 2012??"

My Favorite Highway

So today, one of my most FAVORITE bands in the whole entire world are 'breaking up' :
My Favorite Highway.

They are wonderful. And they're songs are very uplifting to a depressing soul (like mine's)

They're most popular songs:
Say So (the acoustic version is great)
Bittersweet Life (or also known as How to Call a Bluff)

I will truly miss them, and if they weren't sold out, I would stock up on their merchandise that is on sale.
RIP My Favorite Highway

The Season Finale of Huge

No cliffhanger. I think.

I'm just going to model this after Fatshonista's version of the finale.

In no way did this compare to the Pretty Little Liars summer finale. I thought it was kind of worse.
My highlights:

-When Amber's mom calls George 'cute' to Amber's dismay.
-When Carter's younger sister tries and flirt with George and asks if he's seeing anybody. *cough*

-When Ian and Amber kiss, to Will's dismay.
-Salty dad is leaving! :( "No seconds"

That's it. Not very impressed.

Odd Girl Out response

This is a quote I got from Peter Chen's blog:
Think before you act. As high school students, we know that we are responsiblity to what we did. Bully someone is not cool because if you know the feeling of getting bully, you won't do it any more. Be friendly and nice, a person could be one of your friend or one of your enermy.
How this relates to the Constitution is already stated in the first sentence. "Think before you act." Which also just happens to be the 1st rule in the ASTI Constitution, "Think before you speak or act." Way to go Peter. Now, back to the topic, we know we are bullying, I am pretty sure we think about what we do even before our mouths start moving. And Peter is somewhat right in his quote; we never know whether or not the person we are bullying could turn out to be one of our friends... or enemies. Like Dick Cheney and the guy he shot. That guy was his friend. FRIEND. And what happened? He shot him in the face. Not to go off topic, but this kind of does relate to the Constitution. Number 5. and 7. 5: Assume positive intent, and 7:Strive to understand where other people are coming from; be empathetic. It's like the 'used so much it's now a cliche' :"Don't judge a book by its cover," of we just judge a person by what we see/hear, then we would never get good friends. "Be friendly and nice." That does get us through high school, but it does not hurt to throw in a little spice in sometimes. And I do not mean bullying, just by adding a little flair and creativity.....

People we never notice on TV and Movies

Kevin G Schmidt.

Remember that fat kid on Cheaper By The Dozen(1 and 2)? Yeah, that was him.
And for those of you that have been keeping up with him(not me) he plays Henry Griffin on Unnatural History in Cartoon Network.

Ian Harding

Mr.Fitz. Enough said. He was alsoon the episode of NCIS: LA "The Bank Job" playing the banker guy that was in on the robbery. He was also on Adventureland (that movie with Kristen Stewart) as the guy with curly hair that made a comment about the banana he won.

Thomas Fiss

Don't know him? Youtube him. Facebook him. Google him. :D He's a singer.
He was on Titanic. TITANIC. As the little boy with the yo-yo.
He was also in a few Broadway plays. And played Chip in that one play (the one that Nick Jonas also played).
If you have watched The Middlemen, he was in the episode with his former boyband, Varsity Fanclub.

Bobby Edner

He's hecka talented. He can dance, sing, AND act. Triple Threat.
I'm pretty sure we have all watched Spy Kids 3: Game Over. Remember those 3 kids that was with Junie? The one with glasses, the cool kid, and the tough one. He was the one with glasses. AND he sang with Alexa Vega in a song on the soundtrack.
He was also on the episode of The Middlemen with his boyband, Varsity Fanclub.
BTW. His sister is Ashley Edner. And he sang the Taco Bell Rap with the roosevelts. And the wierd guy who sang with him. Who I sware looks like that guy on My Favorite Highway.

Scott Porter

He is AMAZING. I love Scott Porter. Really talented.
He was the original Rex Racer in Speed Racer, he was in Bandslam as Ben Wheatly. He was also the rumored Captain America for the 2011 movie, but NO it goes to Chris Evans. He better get the part of Flash though.
That's not all. he played Jason Street on Friday Night Lights, but he left after Season 2 because Street moved for therapy for his legs. He should come back and see what happened between Lyla and Tim.

So far, this is what I've got. I know there are more out there.

Pretty Little Liars vs Huge

Pretty Little Liars(PLL). There are no other words to state how addicted we all are. Now we have to wait until January for the second part of Season 1. Whose summer finale ended with a giant cliffhanger.

Will Hanna die? Who stands in front of a car when they are about to get hit?!?
Well, Hanna does and her eyes are like (O.O)

Huge. Not so popular. They only have about 117,000 fans on Facebook, whereas PLL hasalmost 2 million.

Fat camp. One word to describe the setting.
Similar to PLL, there is the forbidden relationship between an authorative figure and a mere student/camper.

It is Mr.Fitz/Aria and George/Amber.
I have to admit, George is kind of well, odd. he stutters a lot. His figure compared to Amber's, not so great. Amber's not that big, but still bigger than George.  There's also an age difference like Mr. Fitz and Aria.

Mr. Fitz and George are around the 24 age zone. Amber and Aria are around the 16/17 zone. That's a pretty big age zone.

Back to the real topic:
Huge doesn't get a lot of fans because people think that they are making fun of fat people. They are not. I think. They show them exercising, and that Jillian Michaels-inspired character you should be scared of.

PLL is all about the drama/suspense/mystery thing. Everyone likes that. Unnatural History is the same genre only not involving the mysterious "A." But that's for another time.

The real answer to why PLL is above Huge? That I do not know, but you can figure it out yourselves. The answer is right in front of you. Or you can google it.

Odd Girl Out

A time that I was part of an alliane was a few years ago. Part of a group that was enemies with another group. There were a lot of hate words spread around. Mostly becausethe other group was composed of the typical group, the ones we hate, yet want to be at the same time, the popular kids.
My reaction, or 'feeling' to this was a 50/50 split. I knew that what we said about the other group was hurtful, but I and the other people with me knew when to stop for what we did. The other half was bad because we did say some hurtful things, and some of the sayings we did reached it's limit, if that means saying hurtful words in the language the target is used to.
I had two options for this situation. I could either have left the group or stayed, but I stayed.
People bully each other because it makes them feel powerful and strong. It also makes them somewhat popular because, say, Person A knows something about Person B that no one else knows about, then everyone will want to know.
What makes people want to bully each other is sort of the same as why people do it. To go up one more rung on that ladder and one more step higher than everyone else.
